Heineman Vetoes Healthy Foods Bill

In his message on LB 200, Heineman said that he supports access to healthy foods but that several other federal and state programs support that goal.
He said the bill would duplicate funding available from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Nebraska Cooperative Development Center.
LB 200 would provide up to $150,000 a year in grants to make fresh fruits, vegetables and other healthy foods more available across the state, especially in rural areas and inner-city neighborhoods where grocery stores are scarce.
